Wondering how to turn your major into a career you love? In this course, you will utilize your comprehension of the humanities to guide your career trajectory, interpreting your professional endeavors through the perspectives of poets, philosophers, and other intellectuals. Through actionable steps you will explore what kind of day-to-day work life you find rewarding; research what jobs in the global market match those requirements; meet professionals in those fields and positions; and finally, successfully apply for internships and jobs by articulating your lived experience in ways that resonate with potential employers. The course will host career mentors from a variety of industries, including cultural institutions, government, health sciences, and business.Throughout the course, you will learn how to harness the strengths that your skills in the humanities, languages (for both heritage speakers and foreign language learners) and global cultural studies bring to the job market. Through encountering classic thinkers on this subject as well as reviewing your own personal experiences, you will investigate how intercultural competence, communication, and humanistic inquiry are essential tools in forging your career path.Course taught in English.
